Video: A contender for worst error in MMA refereeing history

He's gone limp, ref

Ben Kiely

In MMA, you fight until the either bell sounds or the ref stops it. However, sometimes you can’t always count on the man ref to make the call.

Chad George scored a dominant victory against Mark Vorgeas at Bellator 136 by sinking in a Von Flue choke towards the end of the first round.

He had put his opponent to sleep with the submission, but the referee failed to notice the fighter had gone unconscious.

Luckily, George noticed that his opponent had gone limp in his arms and rather than continue to choke him until the ref stopped the fight, he began pleading with him to end it. The referee was unwilling to take his word for it though.

George: “He’s out!”

Ref: “No he’s not. No he’s not.”

George: “Yes he is! Yes he is! He’s out!”

It was not until after George had released his opponent and stood up that the ref decided that George was probably telling the truth and he called the fight to an end.

Check out the shocking end to the bout below.
