The Answer is getting impatient.
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has revealed that he doesn’t intend to hang around for the winner of the featherweight title unification bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
An Aldo win, presuming that the McGregor fight happens this winter, will mean that a rematch between Aldo and Edgar won’t take place until next summer while a win for the Irishman will likely result in an immediate rematch, pushing Edgar’s title shot back even further.
Itching to get back into the cage, Edgar revealed that he wants to fight sooner rather than later.
“I’ve got three kids, man,” Edgar told MMAjunkie. “I’m trying to make some money. I’m not getting any younger. I want to challenge myself and keep improving. The best way to improve is to test yourself in the cage.”
“I’m definitely going to fight before the year is out,” Edgar added. “I’m not about to sit around and wait for that [Aldo v McGregor] but I just have to make sure I get the job done and get the winner of those guys.”
And, having gone 25 hard minutes with the long-time 145lb kingpin, Edgar doesn’t foresee The Notorious dethroning Aldo when they finally meet.
“I still think Aldo wins that fight,” Edgar predicted. “Anything can happen obviously but I just think Aldo is a step ahead of him.”
