A lesson to all, if you’re going to take a strong public stance on something, at least do a bit of research into it first.
Fine Gael Senator Catherine Noone made headlines this morning, when she called for any potential UFC title fight in Dublin to be banned, due to “ultra-violent” and “gruesome” injuries the fighters inflict on one another.
Senator Noone was on Ryan Tubridy’s radio show, and said: “I have written to the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport seeking his views on allowing this vile so-called sport to be given a platform and an audience here and fully believe that this event should not be licensed”.
However, just a couple of hours later (and after realising she didn’t have a clue about the issue she was taking a major stance against) , the senator completely flip-flopped, tweeting that she may have “jumped the gun” on the issue.
All in all, I time the storm at just under four hours.
