Man who lobbed coffee at team McGregor shows zero remorse for his actions

He even addressed the criticism of his throw

Jake Shields would like to take this opportunity to apologise… to absolutely nobody.

The legendary fighter garnered some attention in August 2016 during that infamous ‘water fight’ between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz before their welterweight do-over at UFC 202.

Shields was part of Diaz’s entourage, so when the beverages started flying, he got in on the action, picked up a cup of coffee and milled it down from the crowd towards team McGregor.

McGregor’s training partner, Dillon Danis, who’s set to take on Shields in a grappling contest at Submission Underground 4, was in attendance as part of the Dubliner’s crew. In a bid to stoke the flames of rivalry from the beef that pooped gold ahead of their fight, he tweeted out a video of the incident poking fun at Shields’ throwing technique.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Shields broke down exactly what happened during the incident. He spoke with a sense of pride describing how his coffee found its intended target – Danis and some of McGregor’s team who happened to get splashed in the crossfire.

“I think Dillon’s just mad that I dowsed him with coffee. I threw the cup lightly because Dillon was really close to me. I got my target, I don’t know if you heard about that.”

“Oh, I got my target, I would have thrown it harder if I was trying not to get him, but Dillon was right there. I got him and a couple of Conor’s guys. They’re shirts had coffee all over them.

Shields also responded to the criticism of his throw, adding that tossing coffee is a tough task. You need to use the proper technique for it to be in any way effective.

“So I’ll see if I can find some pictures of him getting hit because he’s talking shit. He had coffee all over him, so it was pretty funny. I think he was just mad that I got him good with the coffee. I know I saw him talk shit to Nate, I’m like, ‘Oh fuck!’ So I chucked it at him.”

“It’s funny, a lot of people were talking shit on that throw. What they don’t realise is if you throw a full cup of coffee, if you chuck it like a baseball, it’s going to fly open and you’re not going to get anything. You’ve got to kind of lob it slowly so you hit your target (laughs)… which I did perfectly.”

Timing beats speed, precision beats power.
