That is quite a welt.
Conor McGregor looked to be in pursuit of Khabib Nurmagomedov moments after the lightweight champion submitted him in the UFC 229 main event. ‘The Eagle’ had successfully defended his belt but was in no mood for quashing beefs.
The Dagestani vaulted from The Octagon and lunged into the front row to trade blows with Dillon Danis, McGregor’s teammate, before he was yoinked away by security staff.
Amid the madness, McGregor tried to follow ‘The Eagle’ over the top of the cage to defend his teammates, friends and family. He was prevented from exiting by Abubakar Nurmagomedov, cousin of the champion, and the pair swung for each other.
It took several minutes to break up the feuding parties and restore some fragile sense of order.
McGregor, Nurmagomedov and three of his team were escorted away by security guards and police officers. Dillon Danis was also offered extra protection as he was brought from the fight arena.
Following the fight, and the aftermath, Nurmagomedov apologised to the UFC, Nevada State Athletic Commission and fans but did not extend one to McGregor.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov went on social media, soon after, to show what he claimed to be damage he took from eating a left hook from McGregor. Looked like quite the raspberry.
We are not expecting charges to be filed over this. McGregor, himself, told police he was not interested in filing charges against the three of Nurmagomedov’s entourage that were arrested for the ugly brawl.
This one will run and run and run.
