A first for McGregor

John Kavanagh is predicting a first for his star pupil on August 20.

The SBG head coach recently partook in a Periscope Q&A and gave his prediction for the hotly anticipated rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Kavanagh, never shy to share his opinions, admitted that he expects McGregor to see a fourth round for the first time in his career but claimed that ‘The Notorious’ will put Diaz away before the fifth and final round of the UFC 202 main event.

“Round four,” Kavanagh plainly answered.

Ireland’s first BJJ black belt also revealed that McGregor had “been doing a lot of Jiu-Jitsu” in the run-up to his second clash with Diaz, who famously submitted the Irishman in the headliner of UFC 196 in March.

As the UFC 202 camp reaches its conclusion, Kavanagh claimed that they had taken the training “100 times more serious” for the rematch than they had for the last fight.

Interestingly, Kavanagh sounded unsure on whether or not the UFC featherweight champion would return to 145 lbs to defend his title but did admit that the prospect of cornering McGregor in Madison Square Garden was an exciting option for the next fight after UFC 202.

When presented with a question on how ‘The Notorious’ would fare in a mixed martial arts bout with Amir Khan, who recently expressed an interest in swapping the ring for the Octagon, Kavanagh had a succinct response.

“That’d be a very brief, bad night for Mr. Khan,” he said.
