“One of the greatest nights in Irish sport.”
Cathal Pendred might not have got the decision he was after last night but he still recognised the significance of what was happening in Las Vegas.
As the Irish invaded the Nevada city, and Conor McGregor scrapped his way to a momentous interim belt in what was a record-breaking night in UFC history, Pendred was a proud Irish man.
The Boston-born fighter lost out on a split decision to John Howard at UFC 189 and, after the disappointment of last night, he arose this morning and sent out his congratulations to a certain Mr McGregor.

Straight after the fight, Pendred still showed great respect and composure and vowed that the defeat will drive him on.
John was the better man tonight. No excuses. Thanks for the support.
