Eddie Alvarez keeps his promise to seriously injured GAA player

Wonderful sight

Eddie Alvarez may be a savage inside the Octagon, but out in the real world, he’s an absolute gentleman.

When Eddie Alvarez was informed of what had happened to Tyrone native Aaron Elliott, he immediately tried to meet the young warrior.

Elliott, who had become a GAA star in Philadelphia after moving there in March, was found unresponsive and without a pulse after being struck by a car in Alvarez’s home city at the weekend.

After being rushed to hospital, he underwent emergency surgery on a severe compound fracture which had left his elbow shattered, was placed in a neuro critical care unit where he still remains having suffered a blood clot, leak in the brain, and a fractured skull, and also underwent surgery on a collapsed lung.

When Elliot’s teammate hit ‘the Underground King’ up on Twitter looking to have the Go Fund Me page for his hospital and recovery bills retweeted to the masses, Alvarez offered something else.

He wanted to know if and when he could meet Elliott. Upon hearing that Elliott was allowed visitors, he vowed to drop in and meet him. It wasn’t an empty promise, although Alvarez nearly missed his opportunity.

As expected, though, Alvarez was a man of his word.

He found the time and made his way to Abington Memorial Hosptial where he met Elliot.

His subsequent inspirational message came straight from the heart and was clearly genuine. This coming from a man who prides himself on his toughness inside the Octagon, means a whole lot.

What a wonderful sight.
