Dan Henderson’s wife’s reaction to UFC 204 scorecards shows how much victory would have meant

Inconsolable

Dan Henderson’s wife was brought to tears when “still” was bellowed by Bruce Buffer last weekend.

Prior to the reading of the scorecards following the main event of UFC 204, Rachel Henderson seemed certain that her husband was about to become the UFC middleweight champion.

A UFC belt was the only prize that eluded Henderson, who previously held the Pride middleweight and Strikeforce light heavyweight titles, and his family were confident that the 46-year-old would bow out on the highest high imaginable.

The judging of the Manchester headliner has come in for some criticism, primarily due to the fact that no judge rewarded the dominance of ‘Hendo’ late in the first frame with a 10-8 round.

The UFC 204 edition of the Thrill and the Agony shows the tornado of emotions that circled around the Octagon in the wake of Michael Bisping’s victory and the tears that were shed by a crestfallen Henderson family are evidence of just how much the fight meant to them.

Despite closing out his career with a loss on his record, Henderson has nothing to be ashamed of but it’s clear that this would have been the most significant victory of a storied if the judges had seen the bout in his favour.

Fighting, eh? It’ll break your heart.
