Conor McGregor has vowed to represent Brendan McGlone in the octagon on Saturday at UFC 189.
The 14 year tragically lost his battle with stem cell leukaemia this week, and had previously being part of the make-a-wish foundation programme, where he used his wish to make a phone call to McGregor.
“It’s just a really sad situation and it’s heartbreaking. I’ve lost family members to cancer and it is a horrible, horrible thing,” McGregor said in a recent interview.
When an Irish fan got a chance to ask him McGregor a question at this evening’s press conference promoting UFC 189, he implored the Dublin fighter to “bring home the gold for Brendan” and Conor vowed he would.
“It’s terrible news what happened to young Declan, I am just honoured that I got the opportunity to speak with him,” McGregor said.
“I’m honoured that he used his make-a-wish to have a phone call with me, that blows me away.”
“Most certainly I will carry his spirit in there with me, and represent him and my country well.”
