Conor McGregor in hugely sound gesture to sick Tyrone teenager

Top, top work

Taking time out for an important phone call.

Conor McGregor is deep into his intensive preparations for his world title bout with Jose Aldo at UFC 189, on July 11, in Las Vegas.

The Notorious is going hard at it as he seeks to back up his talk about claiming the Brazilians belt as his own. His Straight Blast stable-mate, Gunnar Nelson, flew out to Vegas last night and will do some sparring with the Irishman ahead of his bout on the Aldo-McGregor [or McGregor-Aldo] undercard.

Still, McGregor took time out of his busy training and promoting schedule to place a phone call to a Tyrone teenage currently battling Leukemia.

Brendan McGlone has been in and out of hospital for large chunks of this year and, indeed, ever since he was diagnosed with the disease. He has had visits from the Tyrone minor team and GAA legend Peter Canavan but a call from his MMA hero made the 14-year-old’s day.

Not only did McGregor share some of his tales from his meteoric UFC rise and the recent world tout to promote ‘189’ he also had words of support and encouragement.

Later in the day, McGregor must have made the teenager’s year when he posted this:

Great to see McGregor’s softer side shining through ahead of the biggest four weeks of his professional life.
