Conor McGregor can be very proud of himself.

Not only has he caused mixed martial arts to blow up to phenomenal levels of popularity in Ireland and earned a title shot in just two years with the UFC but he’s also saved a life.

One anonymous Reddit poster from Northern Ireland has penned a lengthy, heartfelt letter in which he explains the remarkable impact that the Dublin featherweight has had on him.

The letter is too long to post but you can read it in full here.

The fan begins by revealing how his entire life came crumbling down around him when his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer which led to the son’s descent into drug addiction and the relationship with his girlfriend breaking down.

So depressed was the man, who was already a huge fan of McGregor, that he decided to take his own life but had a moment of clarity as he tried to take an overdose of painkillers.

The letter finishes by the McGregor supporter revealing that, because of The Notorious, he’s turned his whole life around by undergoing treatment for his drug addiction and is currently working with elderly people, providing palliative care. His dad is still in remission, two years on, and experiencing no pain.

It truly is a touching letter and just goes to show that Conor McGregor is more than just a sportsman to a lot of people in Ireland.
