He won’t be swinging a giant, inflatable tri-colour hammer watching the fight, but Mendes still wants McGregor to win the featherweight belt
The number one-ranked featherweight in the UFC revelaed that he wants the Irishman to upset the odds against Aldo. Money explained that his support of McGregor in the bout would for purely selfish reasons.
Ultimately, in my best interest, I want Conor to win. This puts me right back in line for a title shot, gets me back in there to fight a new opponent for the title.
Mendes was the last fighter to challenge for Aldo’s belt and although it was a five-round battle, the American wrestler still lost. This meant that he is unlikely to get a rematch against the champ anytime soon. However, if McGregor hands Aldo his first loss and claims the belt, Money thinks he will be first in line to take on the Notorious.
I want to be the guy to beat him,
However, Mendes has more immediate fish to fry before he can go toe-to-toe with the Dubliner inside the Octagon. He’ll take on top-ranked featherweight Ricardo Lamas in the main event of UFC Fight Night 63 on April 4.
