Bad news for anyone on Conor McGregor’s team on the Ultimate Fighter

Hard luck Europe

Well, filming is pretty much over now so it was bad news for Team Europe about six weeks ago.

The Ultimate Fighter 22 is set to premiere this Wednesday with a two hour special. Interim UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will be leading a merry band of European fighters against Urijah Faber’s American team this season.

However, some of the members of Team Europe may have been somewhat disappointed over McGregor’s level of involvement as a coach.

According to McGregor, the six weeks of filming was just too little time to teach eight fighters new techniques. Instead, he opted to help them prepare for fights while focusing on their potential future in the UFC.

“I’m simply going to provide the platform for them, I’m going to bring eyes to the screen for them. I’m going to provide coaches that I have come with, but really it’s a six-week run of fights, on and off.

“I’m not going to go in and teach them anything. I told them their training should already be done. You should already have your hard rounds done. Now it’s about keeping the body fresh because every fight you get knocks and bruises so it’s about maintaining those injuries and making it through those fights.”

McGregor added that he didn’t really take charge at many training session, and didn’t even bother showing up for some of them. However, he left that task to the experts, his coaching team who he has absolute faith in.

“I’m not going to be at every training session if I’m going to be at any training session, I’m just going to be there picking the fights and doing that obligation and I’ll be at the fights. I have my team of coaches that will be preparing them and I trust they will give them the right training.”

“Forget teams, forget all of this other stuff. It means nothing.”
