Poetry in motion
The countdown to the biggest race on these shores this Easter weekend is ongoing with punters and trainers getting ready for Easter Monday at Fairyhouse. This year’s Irish Grand national will be the last chance to see the great AP McCoy in action while Ruby Walsh will be hoping he can land a very first title for Willie Mullins.
The jockey saddles Perfect Gentleman for the Closutton trainer and is one of the hotly tipped horses among the 30 strong field. The race promises to be a classic as ever and there is only one place to be on Easter Monday. We have to admit that we’re big fans of the RTE promo department and they’ve come up with another cracker for build-up to Monday.
They have enlisted Ruby Walsh to wrap his tongue around a few lines of poetry detailing the jockey’s thoughts and emotions for the race. We’re not sure if he wrote any of the lines himself but we have to say if he wanted to read us a few lines of Seamus Heaney or Patrick Kavanagh at any stage we wouldn’t mind at all.
