Hayley O’Connor from Ladbrokes has some top tips for Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot

Can Simenon do the business?

SportsJOE

Today needs plenty of elbow grease to get through the form, the Britannia later on is massively confusing, so I’ll start with the opening race, the Norfolk instead.

Richard Hannon runs two smart juveniles in this in King Of Rooks and Log Out Island

The form of both these horses was well franked on Tuesday when Buratino, a horse they’ve both previously thrashed, won the Coventry in good style.

Log Out Island has had just one trip to the track and that was here when he made a winning debut.

King of Rooks will be making his fourth career start, which I think could stand to him today, and although the money all morning has been for Log Out Island, I think his speedster stablemate, King Of The Rooks is the one to beat.

In the Tercentenary Stakes the Queen will be hoping her Peacock will ruffle the opposition’s feathers, and he chased home Golden Horn recently. Time Test is the warm favourite to get his head in front and give Frankie Dettori more reason for flying dismounts at the meeting he yesterday notched his 50th win. I like Bocca Baciata though, she ran well in the Irish 1000 Guineas, and could cause a surprise today.

I’m really struggling to decide between two fillies in the Ribblesdale in Pleascach and David Wachmans filly Curvy. Pleascach soared to victory at Naas and battled well in the Irish 1000, and Jim Bolger now has his sights on sending her to face the Classic colts in the Irish Derby. My worry is that I was a little disappointed with his round two on Tuesday. Curvy put up a monstrous fight beating Giovanni Caneletto at the Curragh and she doesn’t seem to now when she’s beaten. With a slight doubt in my mind I might side with the first mentioned.

In the Gold Cup Forgotten Rules is the worthy favourite, but as an each way bet, I’ll recommend dual course winner Simenon.

Happy punting!
