Trainer Philip Hobbs is hopeful that Grand National horse Balthazar King will recover from his fall at Aintree yesterday
Last year’s runner-up in the race was heavily backed again this year but suffered a damaging fall at the Canal Turn during the first circuit of the Liverpool course, and was attended to by on-course vets before being transferred to an equine hospital.
He was later diagnosed with suspected broken ribs and was in a ‘comfortable’ condition. Hobbs said: ‘They think he’s probably broken some ribs. Hopefully he’ll be okay.’
With Irish jockey Davy Condon escaping serious injury – he was diagnosed with a concussion after a fall from Portrait King – it’s great to be able to report no casualties from the big race.
