It is the penultimate day of the 2018 Galway Races. The first of eight races will begin at 2pm.
Ask Katie was our big each-way winner yesterday at 66/1, we hope you trusted us on that one.
The GOING for today as told by Horse Racing Ireland: The ground at Galway is yielding to soft (NH & Flat) following a dry night. Forecast for a dry weekend.
14:00 The Betway Irish EBF Maiden
The opening race runs a distance of 1m 73yds, with €17,000 up for grabs. Only six competitors are involved here and we expect Broome at 9/2 to take home the opening win of the day.
Joseph Patrick O’Brien trained horse Calorific is a decent outside shout at 8/1.
14:30 The Betway Maiden
Same distance and prize on offer for race number two. This time 18 horses will take to the field, with early favourite being Fridtjof Nansen at 7/2. Colin Keane will be on board the horse who has shown some nice form recently over a similar distance.
Spirit of Big Bang and Shane Foley is another decent bet here at 7/1.
A.P O’Brien trained horse Astronomer may have something to say about the outcome of this one. You can back it at 8/1.
15:05 The Betway Irish EBF Nursey Handicap
This seven-furlong race holds a cash prize of €20,000, with the favourite being the ever-reliable Silver Service at 3/1. Five top-three finishes in as many races, as well as victory in its last outing at the Curragh make this seem like a safe bet.
However, Michael O’Callaghan and Pulsing Dragon will be pushing right to the end. It is a 5/1 shot, and this race could go either way.
15:35 The Ardilaun Hotel Handicap
Beau Satchel is the previous winner at this race, it also placed earlier in the week so 8/1 looks like a good bet here. Truffles is another previous winner and is the favourite today at 7/2.
For us, Guanabara Bay will be a good outside bet. The horse has shown incredible form over its previous six races and could be primed today to make a real go at this course. You can get the Adrain McGuinness-trained horse at 10/1.
16:10 The McDonogh Capital Investments Handicap
Aidan O’Brien trained Erin is the favourite for our fifth race of the day, you can back Erin at 5/2. The form guide points towards one horse though, Camlann has won its last two races and could make that three today having already won at the course before. Camlann is priced at 5/1.
At 16/1 John Honeyman looks like an exciting outside chance here given its recent form. Danny Sheehy is on board the horse who has finished in the top four in its last six races.
16:45 The Galway Shopping Centre Handicap Hurdle (Grade B)
The showpiece event of the day, and Uradel is on a high after victory earlier in the week, at 10/1 it looks like a good bet to go again today. The horse is trained by Willie Mullins, who has an extremely strong showing in the race. He has seven horses competing against each other, and he may end up with one, two, three.
Ruby Walsh is on board Shanning (Mullins horse) who has three victories in a row and is priced at 10/1.
Our outside bet for this race is another one of Mullins runners. Timi Roli could tempt you going into this race at 14/1.
17:20 The O’Leary Insurance Maiden Hurdle
Another Mullins horse, Suinda looks like a good pick here. Recent form shows that the horse is running well and 5/1 is a decent price.
Pass Hyman at 14/1 has won over the same distance before, could be worth an outside bet here.
17:55 The Galway Shopping Centre Irish EBF Mares Flat Race
We end the day on a 2m 150yds flat race. An extremely difficult lot to choose from. Court Maid (5/1) and Good Scent (7/1) are our predictions to do well in the final outing.
If you are looking for a decent outsider here Krujers Girl at 16/1 and Lucky Phil at 20/1 would be our picks.
There you have it, our picks for day 6 in Ballybrit. Remember to bet responsibly, drink responsibly, and don’t blame us when your wallet is empty.
