Cheltenham punter pockets nearly £850,000 with ridiculous five-horse accumulator

Lend us a quid.

When you’ve got a bit of courage, life gets interesting. When you’ve got a bit of expertise, you can go pretty far. When your luck’s in, it’s go time.

All three combined? Well, then you’re talking six-figure winnings.

One punter – who we like to call friend – made an absolute fortune off a superb bet on day three of the Cheltenham festival.

Whilst Ruby Walsh was away breaking his own records with his St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish man helped bring together a five-horse bet that was priced at almost 170/1.

The bet involved a £5,000 stake for five horses (four winners and each way bets and one to place) and it reaped a grand total of £849,238.71 for coming good.

  • Vautour (Win and each way) – 1.80
  • Thistlecrack (Win and each way) – 2.25
  • Limini (Win and each way) – 1.83
  • Ballyandy (To be placed) – 2.75
  • Diego Du Charmil (Win and each way) – 7.50

And, with Walsh riding Vautour and Limini, at least two of the races weren’t left up to chance really.

The rest of the bet was. But, Jesus, talk about life-changing sums of money.
