John Inverdale dropped the C-Word on live radio

As far as malapropisms go, this is up there with one of the strangest.

BBC Radio Five Live presenter John Inverdale has landed himself in hot water during his coverage of the Cheltenham festival. The host was left red-faced after he accidentally made a reference to “rose-c—ed” glasses live on air.

Inverdale was interviewing former jockey John Francome and young jockey Lizzie Kellie when he made the, for lack of a better phrase, cock-up. Francome explained how much he enjoyed his career as a jockey, despite all the hardship it brings before Inverdale made things awkward.

You get wet, you’re mucking out, and it’s hard work… But through all of that it’s a way of life that most of them wouldn’t swap, a lot of people go off and do other things and then come back to it.

Enter Inverdale, who immediately derailed the interview with his ridiculous error.

This is looking at it through rose-c***ed… rose-tinted glasses from the past… [I] apologise there for a slip of the tongue, but Lizzy your love of the sport just shines through.

Poor Kelly couldn’t contain her laughter over the incident.

Oh yeah, erm because, as (stifling giggles), as I’ve said it’s very important to love it or you wouldn’t do it otherwise…
