Tony McCoy’s stellar career will be honoured at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday.
The 20-times champion jockey bowed out of racing at the 2014-15 National Hunt season finale at Sandown in April after two decades at the zenith of the sport.
Although he wasn’t victorious in his final race, he finished third and retired on a total of 4,348 winners.
McCoy won pretty much every major prize during his storied career, including the Grand National, two Gold Cups, three Champion Hurdles and the Champion Chase, and now he will awarded the lifetime achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony this weekend.
AP, who became the first jockey to win BBC Sports Personality if the Year in 2010, revealed his delight at being bestowed with such a prestigious honour.
“To be receiving the lifetime achievement award is a big highlight of what has been an incredible year. It’s a huge honour and I’m thrilled to be accepting it so close to home in Belfast. I’m looking forward to what will be a very special night.”
The awards will be shown live on BBC One from 6.50pm-9pm on Sunday December 20.
