Niall Conneely, remember that name.
He’s the six-year-old Galway golfer that they’re backing to go all the way.
Niall’s father, Mark, has a bet on with the bookmakers that his son will win a major by the age of 25 and, if footage is anything to go by, the young Ballinasloe man will have no problems from the tees anyway.
Still just a senior infant in Creagh National School, Conneely is pinging the ball over 100 metres at the driving ranges in Glasson and Ballinasloe.
Being coached by the Murphy Sweeney Golf School, Niall is a member of the Ballinasloe Golf Club and it’s easy to see that his practice is paying off.
Conneely won an under-6 junior competition last year and he has his eyes set firmly on winning the Masters. Well, that and playing for Manchester United. At the same time.
At the age of nine, a young Rory McIlroy went to Florida to win the World Under-10 Championships and Conneely too is on the right tracks.
He doesn’t just have a big hit. He can control the flight too and put the ball wherever the heck he wants. Off crossbars for example.
Ridiculous accuracy.
This won’t be the last we see of him.
