Tiger Woods hires biomechanics student to fix his swing

Chris Como given task of helping Woods recapture form

Tiger Woods has put 36-year-old Chris Como in charge of rejigging his swing ahead of the 2015 season.

The former world No.1 split from former coach Sean Foley earlier this year and had not been expected to hire a new face so quickly. However, he has been impressed by the Texas-based Masters student in biomechanics since being introduced by his friend and former PGA Tour pro Notah Begay.

Como has been rated among the top young coaches in golf by Golf Digest magazine, and Woods said in a statement: ‘I was introduced to Chris this summer by Notah and subsequently we had several good conversations about the golf swing. I’ve worked with him about a month since I started practicing. Chris will consult and work with me during the year.’

Woods is looking to bounce back from a dismal 2014 that was marred by poor form and persistent back problems, and part of that will be reshaping a swing into a kinder model that will place less stress on his increasingly fragile body.

To that end, Golf Digest described Como’s teacher Dr Young-Hoo Kwon as being ‘widely considered the foremost expert in golf biomechanics and “sport injury mechanism”‘.

Woods is expected to return to action at his own tournament, the Hero World Challenge in Orlando, on December 4.
