Westmeath players react to history-making win over Meath

Westmeath defeated Meath for the first time in their 131-year championship history, today, and set up a Leinster final date with Dublin on July 12.

No sooner was the final whistle blown, and Westmeat dads were dancing jigs, did a joyous tweet from the county’s musical darling Niall Horan.

Lake County star Darragh Daly wants to get the One Direction star back to Croke Park for the final.

Wonder if he can scramble up the air-fare?

Meanwhile, a host of Westmeath’s victorious panel revelled in their first ever championship slaying of their next door neighbours.

James Dolan summed it up with a succinct hashtag:
