WATCH: Cork GAA club stand blown over house

Good God

Niall McIntyre

This storm is causing havoc across the country.

Hurricane Ophelia is causing some serious damage in county Cork, with the roof being blown off the stand of the Passage West GAA club.

Footage was posted on Twitter of the roof being blown off, and it was then carried over the houses that surround the pitch by the severe gusts of wind in the Maulbaun area of the town.

These gusts were predicted to reach speeds of up to 85 km/h when the red alert weather warning was issued for the country last night.

It just goes to show how dangerous it actually is outside in these conditions, with sheer strength of the storm proving extremely destructive.

The club, for whom three-time All-Ireland winner with Cork John Horgan played, will face a serious re-building process in the next few weeks.

This comes on the back of the roof of the Cork City stadium, Turner’s Cross being destroyed earlier in the day.

Douglas Community school’s sports hall had it’s roof blown away by the severe gusts as well.

Be careful out there people.
