Brian Cody looking over his shoulder as Premier League manager visits Kilkenny

Kevin McGillicuddy

Can you picture Manuel Pellegrini in a Glanbia baseball cap?

The Chilean is, of course, going to be unemployed in a matter of months, with Pep Guardiola taking over his job as Manchester City manager.

And perhaps he is already looking to spend some of his free-time in Ireland, where he may fancy life at a very different pace to the Premier League.

He spent some time in Cork over the Easter weekend, where Cork City and Cobh Ramblers both denied that he was taking over as their respective managers on Leeside.

The Manchester City boss was spotted in the medieval city of Kilkenny on Tuesday afternoon, and the Pembroke Hotel had the pleasure of his company, as they showed him around the city.

There is no suggestion that Brian Cody is going anywhere anytime soon, with the James Stephens man in a job for life if he so desires, but in some parallel universe, perhaps Pellegrini could be a contender for the Kilkenny job.

We’re sure Pellegrini would only love to be earning only mileage expenses, although he may be confused as to why he can’t just go out and buy Seamus Callanan or Austin Gleeson if he likes the look of them.

Imagine the entertainment if he was asked about his excessive spending on a county team by the hardy boys who make up the club delegates in Kilkenny too.

And we’re sure he would only love a big summer break of 6-7 weeks with his players when there is no matches to get them sharp for Championship.

It may have just been a simple tourist trip, but perhaps, just perhaps, it was something more.

We may have just found our idea for next year’s The Toughest Trade.
