VIDEO: Waterford and Wexford hurling stars tune up for unique musical number

SportsJOE

This is something a little different.

While Waterford have been making some sweet, sweet music under Derek McGrath, the Wexford hurlers have not been pitch perfect this spring – falling well short once again in their efforts to gain promotion from Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.

While the two counties played out a surprisingly competitive league quarter-final last month, stars from each county were teaming to make a music videos. Of sorts.

Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny are campaigning as the “Three Sisters” in a bid to be named European Capital of Culture for 2020 and, to this end, they roped a couple of hurling stars into forming a band.

We give you Waterford’s Kevin Moran “on” cello, supporting vocalist Liam Óg McGovern from Wexford. We have proof of McGovern’s singing chops from a Lee Chin tweet back in March, but this is something entirely different

The video does beg one question, however? Where is the Kilkenny band member? Could we not have had Mick Fennelly on oboe, or TJ Reid playing the clarinet.

The third sister is conspicuous in her absence.
