After the roaring success of last year’s visit, it is great to see the South Africa Gaels back on Irish shores
The South Africa Gaels first burst into our lives 12 months ago, when their simply sensational jersey was revealed. We, like everyone else, immediately wanted to know more about the team, and buy the shirt too.
Thankfully the shirt was just a prelude to the team’s arrival in Ireland for a small tour where they captured our hearts with their love of the GAA.
Now the team, made up of players from the townships of Johannesburg, are back and this time there are male and female teams on the trip. The team landed in Dublin Airport yesterday and they have a busy week ahead of them.
They will be playing in an all-island GAA tournament on Clare Island and they’ll also face Tourmakeady GAA club in Mayo. Before they go home, the ladies team will play the UCD International ladies GAA team and the men’s team will tackle an International All Stars GAA team.
But their first job was a kicking challenge with Dublin footballers Michael Darragh MacAuley and Noelle Healy. We don’t have the full video yet but looking at this clip, the folks from Jo’berg have one up on the Dubs.
