VIDEO: Texas TV tries very hard to understand Gaelic football

Imagine what they would have thought of hurling

We take our Gaelic games for granted. Pretty much any Irish person would have played football or hurling at some stage and so could explain the basics without thinking too much about it.

So when someone who isn’t familiar tries to understand both the big ball and small ball games, then it can be tricky.

But fair play to a TV station in San Antonio Texas who decided to do a report on a GAA club in the city by the name of the San Antonio Gaelic Athletic Club for their morning TV show ‘Great Day SA’ on St Patrick’s Day.

The TV show checked out a game between San Antonio’s San Patricio’s and Austin Celtic Cowboys club as part of the South Texas Alamo Irish Fest.

Despite the ropey start mentioning leprechauns and the like the report is a pretty nice way of introducing GAA to some of the locals in the Lone Star State.

We especially love the presenter Brandon Roddy trying his hand at soloing a tiny ball in studio afterwards.

Or maybe the ball is a regular size but the man is just a giant.

Either way he’d be a certain start at the edge of the square if he fancies a go at GAA long term.
