As GAA homecomings go, this is about as GAA as they come.
Cargin waited nine years to break St. Gall’s dominance of the Antrim senior football championship and reclaim the title and they weren’t going to let it pass without a bang.
The men from west of the county ripped through Lámh Dhearg and won the title with nine points to spare, 2-11 to 1-5.
And, whilst it bridged a gap back to 2006 for the Erin’s Own men, there was more cause for celebration because the camogie team had clinched the Ulster title on the same day, beating Longstone 6-8 to 0-11.
So, when both teams arrived back home on Sunday evening, they did it in fine style and both sets of players from the camogie and football outfits hopped on a trailer that was escorted into Toome by a tractor making its way through the rapturous crowds.
There won’t be a cow milked and all that…
