Connor McAliskey’s knee injury is a bit worse than we first thought.

The Tyrone corner-forward is set to miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate injury in the his county’s campaign opener against Cavan in the McKenna Cup.

McAliskey hit five points in the game before being stretchered off an hour into the clash. The subsequent medical tests revealed that he has also ruptured his medial ligament which will add a further four months to his recovery time, as the Irish Examiner reports.

As he explained to the Examiner, the MCL came off the bone keeping him in a brace for six or seven weeks.

“The first four months are a non-runner, they’re just to get the medial ligament healed and then I can get into rehab for the cruciate.”

“The first operation was just to get it pinned down.”

“They took the graft out of my right hamstring and put it into my left to form the cruciate.”

McAliskey has set himself a return date of spring 2018.
