The Galway players efforts to get rid of Anthony Cunningham look to have hit a roadblock

This one might have a bit to go yet

It’s all happening west of the Shannon.

In life, and in sport, timing is everything, and despite Galway’s heave against Anthony Cunningham having begun much earlier than their neighbours efforts to get rid of their management, it’s bizarre both Mayo and Galway have hit the spotlight around the same time.

It emerged over the weekend that there has been two separate attempts to get rid of Cunningham as Galway manager this season, despite him being the first man since Cyril Farrell to get the county to more than one All-Ireland Final.

According to reports, the former Garrycastle football boss met with the Galway county board last night, and it seems the St Thomas clubman is fully intent on seeing out the year extension granted to him by the board just last week.

The Galway county board has maintained their silence on all reports, only to confirm that they met with the players on Saturday,

“Last evening(Saturday) a number of players, representing the 2015 senior hurling panel, met with officers of the County and Hurling Committees to outline some issues and their position in relation to the proposed 2016 management team set-up. These matters will be reviewed in an effort to find a resolution.”

“In the meantime, showing respect for the parties involved, no further statement will be issued by the Galway County Committee in relation to this matter, until a satisfactory resolution has been reached.”
