‘Sean Finn is one of the frontrunners for hurler of the year’

SportsJOE

RTE pundit Anthony Daly has said that Sean Finn is one of the frontrunners for the hurler of the year award.

Finn was a standout for Limerick during their 12-point demolition of Tipperary during Sunday’s Munster final as the Shannonsiders mauled Liam Sheedy’s side at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.

Finn’s teammate Cian Lynch won the award last year but Daly feels that Finn might be in contention this year.

“I think so from what I’ve seen so far Joanne,” said Daly on The Sunday Game.

He’s been absolutely superb for me. Even the days that they didn’t play so well he’s obliterated his marker. I felt they had to win today because they needed to make a statement and by god they hold all three trophies.”

Daly said that Limerick dominated as soon as Tipperary scored their first goal, which put them five points up at the time, and he also praised their full-back line, noting that it’s been some time since we’ve seen a full-back line of the ilk of Finn, Mike Casey and Richie English.

“Powerful performance,” added Daly.

“From the first Tipperary goal in the first-half, Limerick dominated the game. They totally imposed themselves on it and stuck to their plan. I don’t know if it’s happened before but a 12-point win over Tipperary is a huge statement.

“Have we ever seen a full-back line like Finn, Casey and English? How long do we have to go back to see a full-back line like that. Outstanding.”
