Richie Hogan confronted with WhatsApp voice messages he left Colm Parkinson

"What the hell is going on with this fella?"

Conan Doherty

There’s pocket dialing someone, then there’s sending the wrong message to the wrong person. Then there’s voice messages.

Richie Hogan, WhatsApp, singing to his girlfriend, sending it to Colm Parkinson. What’s not to love?

It could happen to anyone. Club players up and down the country are guilty of texting their manager by mistake. Friends have taken swipes at their best pals and sent them to that very person. By mistake.

And who hasn’t recorded three voice messages for their girlfriend and sent them all on to Colm Parkinson? Any man who says he hasn’t is a liar.

Kilkenny’s finest, Richie Hogan, has fallen victim to that blunder and, on the latest GAA Hour hurling show, Wooly played those very messages for the legend himself.

“I sent Richie Hogan a text one evening – I send him a lot of texts trying to get him on the show but it never works out,” Parkinson explained.

“I sent him a message anyway and Richie text me back about 11 o’clock at night – he was in the Middle East.

“Then, when I woke up the next morning, I had three WhatsApp voice recordings on my phone and they were all from Richie Hogan. I went, ‘what the hell is going on with this fella?'”

Listen to the voice recording below – from 12:40.

Hogan only wanted to defend his singing voice though.

Wooly: Richie, you could be in the charts here!

Hogan: I would love to have seen your face when you got that!

Wooly: I couldn’t believe it. The first thing that popped into my head was ‘I’m definitely playing these on the show’. I text you saying you’re going to hear these again.

Hogan: To be fair to me, I actually suggested that you play them the next time I come on the show. I actually am quite a good singer – you wouldn’t think it from that – but I genuinely am. I was doing a bit of work in the Middle East and my girlfriend kept ringing me at maybe 8 or 9 o’clock (Irish time) and the time difference was five hours so it was like 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning. So I said I’d leave her a message when I get up. You know when you’re kind of half awake at five or six o’clock in the morning and when a message does come up on your WhatsApp, you click it just to see? I was trying to wake her up early but it kind of backfired.

He took it like a champ at least.
