There are thing more important than sport
The GAA really is like one big family, and it is in times of crisis or trouble that you really see the wonderful nature of having a sporting organisation in every parish in Ireland shine through.
Of course it has its faults and people may like to bemoan the many bad things about the organisation, but a GAA club in Kerry shows that sport can really cross any divide.
And you can be a friend to someone you have never even met.
Ardfert woman Andrea Hogan was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, and since last year has been running various fundraising initiatives under the banner of her support group called the “Pink Ladies And Gents Committee.”
Ardfert is very much in the north of county Kerry, while Dromid Pearses, the club of former Kerry footballer Declan O’Sullivan, is between Caherciveen and Waterville in the heart of South Kerry.
But geography didn’t matter as the Kerry club side decided to help out in the efforts by Andrea and everyone else by hosting their own fundraiser for her recently.
It was support that did not go unnoticed by their footballing rivals.
There will be a fundraiser taking place tomorrow @BallyroeHeights for Andrea Hogan. Please support.@ArdfertKerry pic.twitter.com/EtKRAO65xC
