While we are losing Kobe McDonald to the AFL after Sunday's All-Ireland final between Mayo and Kerry, we may see the return of another Mayo star to these shores.
Like McDonald, Oisín Mullin was seen as one of the county's best prospects in recent memory, and it was a massive loss when he left for Australia back in 2023.
However, the Geelong Cats ace has expressed his desire to make a return for his club Kilmaine later this year.
He said: “I’d be hoping to wear the green and red again this year – the green and red of Kilmaine!
“I’d love to get back and play in the club championship, but the county championship starts early now and by the time we’re finished in Geelong, it’s over for Kilmaine too.
“Hopefully, this year they’re in the running when I’m finished here and I’ll get the chance to get back.
“As regards Mayo, I’m contracted here at the moment and loving it. I’m content and happy at Geelong and I’m not in a rush back just yet, but hopefully some day I’ll be putting the jersey back on.”
Whether his schedule will allow a return is another issue, and will depend on how far Geelong go in the AFL and how far Kilmaine go in the club championship.
Were the Cats to reach the AFL Grand Final like they did in 2025, it is unlikely we will see Mullin tog out for his home team in 2026.
