LISTEN: The manic injury time commentary on Clare FM summed up a classic league final perfectly

Conan Doherty

“Davy Fitzgerald is calling for time… IT’S ALL OVER!”

A moment in time captured forever.

Commentators aren’t just tasked with describing action or bringing a game to life. They face a challenge of immortalising iconic moments. Their words, their energy, their timing can sprinkle stardust over magic and ensure that it stands the test of time.

The good folk at Clare FM weren’t bored watching the Allianz League final anyway. And it’s safe to assume that no-one was bored listening to them.

Davy Fitzgerald’s men captured the title after a stunning comeback from the jaws of an underwhelming defeat but a 1-6 salvo from Tony Kelly turned the tide miraculously.

The Banner outfit stormed from nowhere with just seconds remaining to steal the Division One title from Waterford’s two hands and it was absolutely momentous.

It was no task for any ordinary man.

Thank God Clare FM had Derick Lynch and Niall Gilligan on hand to call the closing stages to absolute euphoric perfection.

Give this is a listen. Local GAA commentary at its best.
