The news has attracted a strong response.
Kerry minor ladies manager Jonathan Griffin has had his contract terminated by email, news which has provoked an understandably angry response.
Griffin was informed by the Kerry LGFA that his services were no longer required less than a week before Kerry’s Munster championship opener against Tipperary.
A statement from Kerry LGFA was released via Radio Kerry.
“At a meeting of the county board executive, it was decided the present and future aims of the Kerry LGFA and the current minor management team were not aligned. They subsequently decided for a change of management, with immediate effect.”
In response, Griffin told Radio Kerry that he intends to appeal and says that he believes the decision did not represent all members of the Kerry LGFA executive.
“I believe this email is only representative of a certain section of members of the Kerry LGFA executive and others were not privy or in support of this email. I am presently considering my right of reply in relation to this email and will certainly do so in due course.”
Senior manager Graham Shine has assumed managerial duties on an interim basis.
In a post on Twitter, journalist Donal Barry, who is also the ladies football HEC chairperson, slammed the decision to remove Griffin as ‘really disturbing,’ adding that developments like these highlight how ladies football in Kerry remains ‘in the Dark Ages.’
Really disturbing behavior that a group of less than six people can ‘terminate’ a manager by email six days ahead of the opening championship without it being discussed by club delegates- Sadly it’s a reason why Ladies Football in Kerry is very much back in the dark ages https://t.co/bzsbFMJXsZ

Griffin also took to Twitter to express his disappointment, claiming that the executive did not meet with him prior to informing him of their decision.
".. our view of the present and future development of the Kerry ladies minor football team and the view of the current manager are not aligned at this time." – They never met with me or my management team to know our views! Players,Parents & Coaches have put in 8 months of work!
