Ahead of Waterford's Munster Championship opener against All-Ireland winners Clare, Déise icon John Mullane gave his view on the current crop of stars.
Waterford have not won an All-Ireland since 1959, nor a Munster title since 2010, and their last appearance in the final of both competitions came in 2020.
With the competition so fierce in Munster, it can be tough to come by wins, even for a a strong squad, which Mullane believes Waterford have, particularly with the return of talisman Austin Gleeson.
However, he feels that they only have a two-year window to win a trophy, before the competition will become too tough to overcome.
In the Irish Independent, he wrote: "This Waterford team probably have a maximum of two years to make hay as some of the greatest hurlers that we have ever produced are coming to the end.
"They’d see another opportunity next year if they can get the likes of Jack Fagan and Calum Lyons back.
"On the face of it, you’d think Jamie Barron (31), Tadhg de Búrca (30), Stephen Bennett and Austin Gleeson (both 29) have more years to give but they have all had their own injury problems.
"They need to make something happen because you’re looking at other teams like Cork that are full of youth and primed to dominate."
