They don’t make them like this anymore.
Everybody has a soft spot for the classic Adidas Predator Manias.
If you got a pair of them as a youngster, you were the talk of the town, and the envy of every other teammate at training.
“How did you get them? They don’t even sell them anymore!”
You were smug, you felt mischievous, you were looking down on all of the other wannabees.
You felt invincible, you could run faster than you’d ever done before. If you were using them for football, you could literally take on a shot from anywhere on the pitch, and it would probably still end up going over the bar.
There’s something magic about them, probably beginning with their rarity. It always feels good to have something that nobody else has, doesn’t it?
What’s rare is wonderful, but the Predator Manias really are aesthetically pleasing as well.
The sweet red tongue sets the tone, from which the white waves beneath the laces are inspired, and the three white lines behind the boot compliment.
Not only are they attractive, but the tight tongue ensures the boot is compact, and the laces aren’t flailing around the shop.
Kilkenny hurler TJ Reid has always sported Adidas boots, usually wearing the newest model of the predators.
He has gone all the way back to his retro roots, joining Galway’s Conor Whelan as one of the only hurlers to wear the Predator Manias.
Next year, the Ballyhale Shamrocks player will be a new man with his kicks, which he described as a pair that he always wanted since he was a kid from watching David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane.
You’re not the only one TJ. You represent us all.
