Most neutrals were cheering on Mayo in today's All-Ireland. Not as a slight on Kerry, but for what it meant for the Green and Red, after 75 years of heartache.
Joe Biden famously visited Ireland back in 2023, and made a speech in his ancestral home of Mayo, where he also mentioned 'Mayo for Sam', to rapturous applause.
After the scenes at Croke Park this afternoon, the former US President took to X to congratulate the team.
He wrote: "For the first time in 75 years, the Sam Mcguire Cup comes home to Mayo, Ireland. I said it three years ago when I was in Ballina: Mayo for Sam! And I meant it. I said it because I know what it means not just the county of Mayo but to my own family’s story. Today, the dream becomes reality. Congratulations to my friends in Mayo. You earned this victory. Enjoy every minute. Sam is coming home".
Former President of Sinn Féin, Gerry Adams, also reacted emotionally, writing: "Im crying my eyes out. What a win."
The Gallagher brothers of Oasis, as well as guitarist Bonehead, all have mothers hailing from Mayo, so naturally they were delighted with the victory, particularly the latter, who was tweeting throughout the game.
Bonehead wrote: "Oh the Green and red of Mayo, what a game 💚❤️💚❤️".
Liam said: "Congratulations MAYO lick it up to ras very proud LG x".

According to a report from the Irish Examiner, U20s talents Evan Boyle and Daniel Kirby […]
