The investigation is ongoing.
Gardaí are currently investigating claims that a well known GAA star was involved in a scandal that defrauded people out of approximately €1 million.
It is understood that the retired GAA player is to have taken money from innocent people under false pretences.
Those who gave money thought that it was going towards various trips and special treatments to help treat an alleged illness that the former player had.
However, doubt has been cast on whether or not this ex GAA star was ever ill, and according to the Daily Mirror, a number of people have made complaints to gardai that he used the money for his own personal use.
Gardai confirmed that officers in the Eastern region had begun a major investigation into the individual but will not comment further as it is ongoing.
this is a developing story and will be updated when more information comes to light.
