The goalscorer of one of Gaelic football’s greatest ever pile-drivers is back!
The Meehan family has provided some true servants to the inter-county footballing cause over the past 20 years.
Declan and Tomás Meehan helped deliver All-Ireland glory for The Tribesmen, in 1998 and 2001. Younger brother Michael made his senior Galway debut in 2003 but, try as he might, he could not emulate their Sam Maguire glory.
Meehan has three Connacht titles with Galway and also has club All-Ireland and Siegerson Cup winners’ medals to his name. For a decade, he was the county’s main scoring threat – registering 12 goals and 84 points.
The one drawback of Meehan’s career was a big one – injuries. During his time with Galway, he picked up ankle, shoulder, hamstring and ankle [again] injuries that confined him to the sidelines.
He retired from the inter-county game back in 2014 but, going well for club side Caltra, he has been convinced into rejoining the senior panel.
There has been no timeline set for Meehan’s return and there is no indication, as of yet, that he will feature in Galway’s Allianz League campaign.
However, with the likes of Damien Comer, Gary Sice, Michael Lundy and Cathal Silke playing some fine football, the return of Meehan further bolsters a squad Colm Parkinson recently tipped as All-Ireland dark horses.
Cause for excitement out west as Colm Parkinson makes bold Galway claim
As for that pile-driver, we’ll just leave this here…
Welcome back.
