We love a good mixed metaphor.
Whether it is “making hay while the iron is hot” or “we could stand here till the cows turn blue” we just can’t get enough of the word jumbles.
Galway football manager Kevin Walsh has generously gifted a new one to the canon.
Following Galway’s dramatic Allianz Football League Division 2 draw with Meath at Pearse Stadium last weekend the former Sligo boss got himself in a muddle when describing his team’s courageous fightback.
As reported in the Irish Daily Star Walsh said: “Our character was tested and at half-time it would have been very easy to throw the white towel in, but I’m very proud of how the lads worked.”
A little bit of “throwing in the towel” mixed with a dash of “waving the white” and there you have a nice little mixed metaphor.
Galway head to Armagh this Sunday looking to get their promotion campaign back on track… here is hoping Walsh and the Tribesmen can keep things in order.
