GAA to remain with cashless ticket system despite Ticketmaster’s “technical error”

“A technical error unfortunately impacted GAA ticket sales on Sunday.”

Ticketmaster has “apologised for any inconvenience caused” after supporters experienced difficulties purchasing tickets at Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League games.

In December 2020, the GAA signed a five-year contract with Ticketmaster, after 10 years with tickets.ie, and due to the pandemic, they opted to make all tickets digital, rather than the traditional paper versions.

Last week there was a website fault with Ticketmaster internationally, which affected several events across the world, and prevented fans from purchasing their tickets.

The huge amount of traffic from the Super Bowl that was played on Sunday, is believed to have had affect on the website, but regardless of this the GAA are staying paperless.

This season so far has been “cashless” in regards to its tickets, and is not something that they want to change.

There were initially complaints from people regarding the difficulty that elderly GAA fans were having trouble working with the online element of it all.

You can still purchase tickets however, in some stores such as SuperValue, and Centra, to help aid those who struggle with the digital aspect of it.

A Ticketmaster statement said: “A technical error unfortunately impacted GAA ticket sales on Sunday – this was fixed by the team as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
