The January blues are about to be lifted.
January can be a depressing time but the good news is that inter-county football and hurling is back on our screens once again, even if it is just for the pre-season competitions.
There will be some added interest to this year’s pre-league campaign, particularly in Ulster where there is a lot of curiosity surrounding certain counties, and their managers in particular.
Mickey Harte shocked everyone in the summer when he took the vacant Derry job, and now we will see him wearing the Oakleaf crest for the first time in the McKenna Cup.
Jim McGuinness finally made his return as Donegal manager, and considering how he changed the game during his last stint, people can’t wait to see what he will do this time around, and we’re about to get our first taste of what this new team could look like.

The McKenna Cup, the FBD League, McGrath Cup and O’Byrne Cup are all set to kick off this month, as well as all of the hurling pre-season competitions as well.
