It appears we may not be seeing Shane Curran posters on every lamppost in Roscommon after all.
It has been reported that the former Rossies goalkeeper will contest this year’s General Election for the Fianna Fáil party, but the 44-year-old has this morning put paid to the rumours – for now at least.
Curran has responded to a story in today’s Irish Times which claimed the charismatic star – who also played soccer for Athlone Town – would be added to the ticket in the Roscommon-Galway constituency as Micheal Martin’s crew seek to regain ground lost in the 2011 election.
The move would mark a swift turnaround in his views on the party, which he compared to the Catholic Church as institutions of the past in a bizarre outburst on the Sunday Game last year.
Curran’s tweet suggested it was the first he had heard, but nonetheless does not seem to close the door on the idea…
@johnjgreene @SarahBardon I didn’t either J – I think Sarah has jumped the gun little .
