American commentators struggle to explain ‘violent’ hurling to their viewers

"It’s a violent sport"

Kevin McGillicuddy

We’d struggle if it was the other way around

If ESPN are ever thinking of taking coverage of the GAA stateside, may we suggest that they brush up on their knowledge of our national game.

Hurling bizarrely featured in the midst of a college football game last night, and the description of the commentators of a mix between soccer, rugby and lacrosse would hardly please Brian Cody.

A clip came on screen in the middle of the Montana Grizzlies and North Dakota State Bison match that showed the Montana Grizzlies hurling side in action.

Brent Musberger tried his best to describe what viewers had just seen on screen, but it sounded more like a version of UFC than one of our biggest pastimes.

The commentary team also came out with a line that would hardly entice American mammies to enroll their Jonah’s or Jude’s in the local GAA club:

“It’s a violent sport… It looks so dangerous!”

It’s not lads, just stand nice and close and you won’t get hurt.

The Grizzlies are on national TV!!!
