Getting rained on, getting lumped about the place, getting roared at from all sides. The last thing Donie Shine wanted was a smack in the face.
It was a brutal aul’ day at Pearse Stadium as Roscommon and Galway served up some less than attractive football in the Connacht football final.
The heavy rain did not help matters at all but there were some awfully cynical antics going on in the final minutes.
At one stage, with Roscommon seeking their way back into the tie and Galway taking runners out, referee Conor Lane had enough. In flashing a black card to a penitent Tribesman, he managed to poke Shine in the eye.

Luckily enough for Shine, he retained his vision to grab a late score that left the final tied at 1-10 to 13.
