Donegal’s evergreen Christy Toye has become one of the most popular men in Ireland

Legend

Conan Doherty

Christy Toye: A baller, a warrior, a Donegal man.

It seems that the St. Michael’s player has been doing the rounds for the best part of three decades at least now. For as long as you can remember, Christy Toye has been a servant on the hills of Donegal.

Restless, tireless, faultless.

Whenever his county needs him, Toye is there. Wherever they need him, he’s there.

On Saturday, in one of their relatively more insignificant games, it was Toye who was churning out the same grind he’s been grinding for God knows how long.

He came off the bench as he does, he steadied the ship as he does, he got his hands on the ball and he ate up the yards of Croke Park like he was out stepping around his back garden again.

It didn’t go unnoticed. Another inpsirational cameo role from Toye not only guided the north west outfit back into the All-Ireland quarter-finals for a sixth successive season, but it had the world of social media marvelling at the longevity and the undoubted effect of the man they call Christy Toye.

The timeless Christy Toye.

Really, how long has it been?

How long have we all been dreaming?

Even the sight of him is comforting.

Style: on the ball and off it.

He also hand-passed the ball a good 40 metres too.

Is he not already 63?

Simple.

There are no words.

He was booked for wearing no gumshield though.

Christy Toye can do what he bloody well wants.
